PURPOSE AND SCOPE:  Counseling Team provides counseling and consultation services to assist Texas Army National Guard Service Members and their families (SM/FM), thereby promoting mental fitness and personal wellness for operational readiness and reintegration to civilian life.

MISSION: The overall mission of the Counseling Team is to increase individual and unit readiness and wellbeing through the promotion of psychological health and resilience. This is done by focusing on strategic support services to leadership, units and local community as well as providing direct services to National Guard Service members and their families.

COORDINATION: The Counseling Team is comprised of 7 independently licensed counselors. Team members are located in Austin, Dallas, Houston, Weslaco, Tyler & El Paso.

When calling the TMD Counseling Line directly at 512-782-5069, voicemails will be returned within the hour. We will try to return calls as soon as possible, but must account for being with other callers and/or attempting to manage multiple calls at one time. The behavioral health team will rotate on-call and be available to answer calls on this line 24/7- 365 days of the year!

Our counselors will meet with Service Members and/or their Family Members experiencing individual stress, anxiety, depression, anger, grief, family problems, relationship problems and many other issues that may be presented.

Yes! Meeting with our counselors is confidential and will not be reported to your command or anyone else, with the exception of reporting abuse of a child, elderly, or disabled person (TX State Law) and/or danger to self or others (Duty to Warn).

  • Meet with Service Members and their Family Members to discover their individual needs.
  • Develop support plans for individuals and/or their family.
  • Respond to critical incidents and provide post-vention care.
  • Coordinate with TMD unit leadership to support behavioral health awareness and wellness promotion plans.
  • Conduct behavioral health training for TMD.
  • Provide support through the 24/7 Counseling Line.
  • Coordinate with TMD Family Support Services (FSS) programs to offer holistic care to all clients.
  • Assist and execute plans for behavioral health assistance to TMD Soldiers and employees during disaster response missions. 

All of our counselors are licensed by the state of Texas. They will have at least one of the following licenses:

  • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
  • Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

Our services are FREE of charge to Service Members and their Families.
